Real loft wedding: Raisa + Jeff
From the bride:
We knew that most of our guests would be coming in from out of town, so when we walked into Studio 450, we knew we found our reception space. With expansive views of NYC, it was the perfect venue to show off the city we call home to our guests, many of whom had never been to NYC before. We chose all white flowers — giant calla lilies (which have always been my favorite since I was a little girl), orchids and hydrangeas — for a clean, modern look to play off the all white space of Studio 450, but used soft uplighting and tons of candlelight to keep the feel warm and inviting. We continued the clean, modern look with our invitations, which served as the inspiration for our programs, menu cards, seating board, table cards and other printed materials.
Where possible, our own personalities and preferences drove our decisions. Our table names were the clubs from Rushmore, one of our favorite movies. Our menu was full of Asian flavors — both as a nod to my Filipino culture and the fact that we order in Vietnamese and Thai once a week! My mom even made her homemade empanadas as a late night snack. Our wedding cake was from our favorite bakery, Lady M. Some friends drove in beer from Bell’s Brewery, a brewery from Jeff’s college town. And if you know my personality, the card monster makes perfect sense!
But our overarching goal was to throw an amazing party for our guests that we would remember for the rest of our lives. We focused on great music, food and cocktails, but with friends and family as wonderful as ours (who all love a good dance party), it wasn’t hard to create a memorable night!

As a young Korean American couple living on a budget, we wanted to have a wedding honoring our Korean parents without compromising our own style and fun. Traditionally, Korean weddings are celebrated honoring the bride and groom’s parents where the guest list can be anywhere from 250 to 500+ people of mostly friends of the parents– that meant having an open invite wedding. A wedding with a guest list of 300 people can be bad for the pocketbook of a budget minded couple in NYC. This meant bringing out the true Martha Stewart in me. From the programs to the flowers, cupcakes to the even the Emcee and DJ, our wedding was mostly handmade/DIY with the help of our dearest family and friends. Our parents had their fun during the ceremony and dinner reception which was held at our church. Afterwards, close friends and family headed over to Gary’s Loft for a post reception with a more personal touch of who we are as a couple. Thanks to Gary’s Loft, we had a country meets city theme in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. With heartfelt toasts, photobooth frenzies, and some good ‘ol booty shaking the work put out was well worth it.
