Minted recently concluded their latest challenge, this time all about the wedding program…this in particular was an interesting challenge because they invited bloggers to take part and try their hand at customizing and DIYing the heck out of existing designs. The only requirements were you had to figure out a way to bind the program, and whatever you wanted to do on the backside was fair game. Best design wins $1000, not too shabby!
I thought the winners all did an excellent job [you can check out the winning entries here], but I thought I’d share with you some of my favs too…
Victoria from A Subtle Revelry used a cute button to tie the program together, I really loved the ombre stitched LOVE on the back of the program…maybe a little too labor intensive if you’re doing a couple hundred of these, but still an excellent idea!
Ruth from Not So Cookie Cutter played up the ampersand and stripes on this DIY wedding program, and it was a super simple but effective way of tying in a potential theme [easy to do with ampersands or stripes].
Lehan from Lehan Paper Design added some simple black grommets to this wedding program which was completely in tune with my modern tastes. Im a big fan of grommets, and love that they come in a ton of colors…though I think the black really worked well with the black and white cover.
The little black/white twine tassel that Barnbride came up with was totally adorable and perfectly matched with the striped wedding program. Maybe a little more time than you’re wiling to spend, but you could always buy ready-made tassels, or start an assembly line with some helpers for a similar look.

After Chad and I got married, what all our guests remembered after how good the food was (which it was!!) was how great the music was, because when it comes to receptions, having great music is key to keeping the party going. So if you’re looking for a great DJ, look no further than Scratch Weddings. This team of highly trained DJ’s not only does weddings, but also perform at clubs and music festivals, and work with corporate clients like Oprah, W Hotels and Bloomingdales (just to name a few). Their DJ’s go through a rigorous 10-step screening process so you’re only getting the best of the best, and they’ve performed at over 15,000 events, so they know what they’re doing! I love that they cover all sorts of styles and musical genres, and that they’ll custom tailor a set list especially for your event. If music is important to you, then these are the DJ’s you want to hire.

Its become pretty common that couples generally live together before getting married, which means they’ve already stocked their cupboards with all the plates, glassware, and appliances they could ever need, so dont really need to register for any more (ok, you can still get that Kitchenaid Mixer if you REALLY need it!). Some couples would rather register for experiences instead of more of the same, and thats where Traveler’s Joy comes in!
Your registery takes minutes to set up, and not only can you register for things like dinners or spa treatments, but you can also add in guide books and cameras to keep you on the right track and capture all your memories. More expensive items can be divided up into manageable dollar amounts, so multiple people can contribute to a gift. A friend of mine recently registered for honeymoon experiences, and I can honestly say its really gratifying knowing that my contribution was to something they really wanted to do, and that I knew they’d always remember…
If you’re interested in setting up your own honeymoon registry, check out what Traveler’s Joy can offer you.
I’m so happy to introduce you to a new site by the people that brought you Traveler’s Joy called SimpleRegistry…and it really is as simple as the name says! Their whole mission is to take the hassle out of registering, and giving you the option to register wherever you want, not just at the standard big box stores. They’ve made it even easier with the launch of their mobile app, where you can scan or photograph the barcodes of items you want from virtually anywhere! There are also ways to split the cost of pricey items amongst multiple guests, which is handy if you’re got expensive taste like me. In the end, SimpleRegistry is about giving you the freedom to register for anything your heart desires, whether it be pillows and kitchenware, or honeymoon experiences and down payments. If only something like this was available when I was registering!
Definitely head over to their site and sign up for your own simple registry.
