When Chad and I got engaged, we ended up having a pretty lengthy engagement…2 1/2 years! It wasn’t because we couldn’t get our stuff together, we essentially had our wedding planned within 6 months….it was because I didn’t want to get married in an odd-year. You see, we got engaged towards the end of 2006, and could have gotten married in 2007 if we wanted to, but I have this thing with odd numbers, so we held off til Spring of 2008! Maybe its a silly reason, but hey, we ended up having ALL even numbers for our anniversary date…04/26/08, so I’m pretty happy about that!
That leads me to the premise of a film coming out on April 27 called The 5-Year Engagement starring Emily Blunt and Jason Segel….if you haven’t seen the previews yet, you absolutely must! The characters, Tom & Violet, get engaged a year after meeting, and through a series of crazy events, their wedding gets postponed multiple times over 5 years…its from the producers of Bridesmaids, so its pretty much guaranteed to be hilarious.
A bunch of blogs today are getting in on the fun…each participating blog below is featuring a different save the date that Tom & Violet sent out over their 5 year engagement….simply collect 4 of the dates (seen on the STD card) and enter them at the sweepstakes page for a chance to win $1000 Amazon giftcard!

If you’re one of those couples that doesn’t need anything else for the home, Traveler’s Joy is the place to register! Instead of plates and glasses, you could be registering for fun experiences on your honeymoon, like fancy dinners and massages….doesn’t that sound nice? You can even register for cameras and guidebooks…its easy because you can start with a premade theme or location based registry and customize from there. For pricier gifts, your guests can split the cost amongst themselves, so no one person is on the hook.
Traveler’s Joy also now offers a great new service called “Honeymoon Tipster“…their team of freelance travel writers help you decide where to stay after you’ve selected a destination! Since their not travel agents, the advice is totally unbiased, so you’re going to get the real story.

They make it easy to gather everything you want in one place, and its a breeze to register ANYWHERE by scanning product barcodes on your phone or while browsing online. A bonus is that if you’ve got expensive taste like me, guests can split the cost amongst themselves.

If you’re newly engaged, you’re definitely going to want to consider registering at Macy’s. Chad and I registered there when we were engaged because it was so easy for all our guests….we were able to find a lot of stuff in our modern style, which was a big plus. Now a few years later, and I see even more great brands popping up on their site like Kate Spade, Jonathan Adler, and my perennial favorite, Martha Stewart. They’re pretty much your one-stop shop for everything you’ll need to set up house from the kitchen to the bedroom and everywhere in between, with the added bonus of getting 5% back from every gift you receive! Yeah, you read that right….when someone buys you a gift off your registry, you get 5% of the price back in your Star Rewards program. Better yet, when YOU spend at Macy’s, you get 10% back in your account*! Can’t beat that!
As a special treat, we’re giving away a $150 giftcard to 1 lucky winner! Leave a comment below with a link to your fav Macy’s registry product for a chance to win…the winner will be announced on Friday! Good luck!
*when enrolling in Macy’s Registry Star program. Not valid on any beauty/fragrance purchase. Nor do you get 10% back from furniture if it’s self-purchased. So while you cannot register for furniture at Macy’s, you can use your rewards gift card to purchase that sofa or rug of your dreams.

I was having a discussion with a couple of ladies about bridal registries the other day, and it dawned on me that there are so many new options these days for wedding registries that defy “tradition”. As couples are waiting longer to get married and testing the waters by living together first, in most cases their houses are practically set up so there’s no need for additional plates, cups etc. Rather, being able to register for experiences or your honeymoon is becoming increasingly popular, and thats where Traveler’s Joy can come in. They’ve made it super easy to register for fun things like breakfast in bed, bungee jumping, island excursions, pretty much anything you can do on your honeymoon, you can register for! How nice to not have to worry about expenses while you’re enjoying some alone time with your sweetie! You can also add on items like maps, cameras, and luggage, and for higher priced items, the cost can be split up amongst guests so no one’s on the hook for the $1000 Louis Vuitton makeup case you’ve been eyeing. If you’re stumped for ideas of what to register for, you can use their Instant Registry feature, or check out other Traveler’s Joy user registries to see what they’re getting.
Now you’ve got no excuse to not sign up!
