Here’s a fun contest for you lovey dovey couples to enter! The whole premise behind the idea of “Be Yourself, Together” is to highlight that as a couple comes together, not only are they joining in a union, but they’re also maintaining their individuality. You may like one thing, your partner may like something totally opposite, but you’ll make them work because you love each other, and these differences in opinion and style only make your relationship better! It’s the quirks that make the relationship interesting, right?
To enter, submit a photo of you and your love that embodies the “Be Yourself, Together” mindset here by October 15, so that gives you plenty of time to come up with a great idea for your picture. You can also post your photo via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest using the hashtag #TargetBYT. Brit Morin of Brit + Co. will select 5 winners to be announced over at her Target Wedding Pinterest board. The grand prize being a $500 giftcard to Target and the winning image being featured on her Pintrest board for Target Wedding! (The 4 other winners will receive $100 giftcards to Target.)
Good luck to everyone entering, can’t wait to see your pictures!

Ever hear that phrase “opposite attract?” Sometimes its never more true than when 2 people come together as a couple and start combining their tastes. One could love traditional, the other a modernist at heart. Or one loves technology while the other prefers to stay a purist. Luckily Chad and I had similar aesthetics (yay modern!), but we’re still night and day when it comes to some things…like his obsession with coffee for example. I happen to be more of a tea girl myself, but he absolutely cannot function without a couple of cups of coffee when he wakes up!
If this sounds familiar to you, then Target’s registry can help! With practically everything under the sun to register for, you can get as practical or crazy as you want, and there’s definitely something for every taste. The best thing about registering is that there really is no right or wrong gift to ask for…so if you want some cookware, but your fiancé is itching for a sleeping bag, just go for both! By choosing gifts based on your interests, your guests will really get to know you as a couple that much better (and help you keep the peace at home!). If Chad and I were registering today, he’d probably register for the Keurig coffee maker, while I’d be sure to add the Chef’s Choice electric glass kettle for my hot & iced tea obsession.

Chad and I are busy people. He’s got work and school, and I’ve got work and the blog, so its hard for us to find time to do fun things together, let alone coming UP with fun things to do. We tend to fall back on the old standbys….usual restaurants, movies, etc, and it can get old fast….so I was really excited to try a service called How About We. Its a membership service where they come up with great dates that are already priced for 2, and it lets you try things you may never have thought of. We did the I Melt With You, a fondue date at Heidi, which is a tiny Swiss restaurant in a really artsy alleyway behind the old CBGB’s. You’d really never know it was there if you haven’t walked by before, so it felt like a hidden secret. We indulged on a bottle of wine, charcuterie & a delicious cheese fondue for 2. It was so refreshing to not have to make any decisions, and we could just enjoy each others company.
How About We’s reservations assistants made all the plans, I just selected which date we wanted to do, sent over a couple of dates & times that would work for us, and they did the rest. There are so many dates to choose from, like pottery classes, wine tastings, yoga, or even gourmet picnics in the park. They’re all at member-only discounts, and with your membership, you’ll get a free date each month and unlimited rewards from their partners (2 for 1 movie tickets anyone??). If you’re planning a special date for a birthday or anniversary, they’ll even help craft something especially for you, just tell them what the occasion is and set a budget!
If you’re not a member yet, definitely give it a try and get a $50 promo to put towards your first date! Its so great for newlyweds, or even new parents who just need to get out of the house. I know we’ll definitely be using them again!

Ever since Postable launched, they’ve been making gathering the addresses of your friends and family so much easier! Now they’re tackling the headache of thank you cards for any occasion! Because if you think about it, there are plenty of occasions surrounding a wedding that need thank yous….engagement parties, bridal showers, and bachelorette parties, just to name a few. The team at Postable have worked with some great stationery designers, like Rifle Paper Co. or Old Tomfoolery, to come up with designs that will suit any taste. You simply pick a card, type out your thank you using a selection of realistic handwriting or stylized fonts, then Postable takes care of the printing, addressing and mailing. The paper quality is great, and it couldn’t be easier to get it all done…now if only this were around when I was getting married!

If you guys know me well (and after 6 years of blogging, I hope you do!), then you know I love the untraditional when it comes to weddings. I love working in items that have nothing to do with weddings into decor, or finding dresses off the rack rather than getting the usual wedding dress. The more modern, the better…which is why I’m beyond excited to be partnering with Barneys New York to show off what they’ve got for weddings!
I dont know if I ever told you this, but 3 months after Chad and I started dating, we were shopping around Barneys and literally found the engagement ring I knew I had to have. It was a stunner from Malcolm Betts, hammered platinum with a vintage diamond, yet perfect for my modern tendencies (similar to this one). I’d never seen anything like it at the time, and its still one of my favorite designs ever. We never even looked anywhere else because there was no need to! Then when it came time to pick out our wedding bands, we checked out a couple of places, but eventually headed back to Barneys, and again, found the perfect ring, this time from Linda Lee Johnson. While the rings were from 2 different designers, they went together amazingly well, and we got it on the spot.
It’s knowing that I can find modern dresses, shoes, accessories, even registry gifts, that keeps me coming back to Barneys for inspiration, and the best part is, since they’re not traditionally “wedding”, they’re totally useable beyond the big day. We’re talking gorgeous pieces from brands like Lanvin, Manolo Blahnik, and Zac Posen, just to name a few. This is the créme de la créme of fashion-forward design, for all you brides who know your stuff.
Of course I had a lot of fun in the process putting together a Pinterest board inspired by what I think is a perfectly Brooklyn/New York modern wedding, featuring chic dresses, sleek hairstyles, and everything else you’ll need to pull it together. You can check it out here.
