From the bride:

There are honestly not enough words to express how amazing our wedding was. From our family and friends, to the venue and vendors we worked with, it was perfect.

Not even a few rain drops could dampen our excitement and pure happiness! The day and night flew by and we never wanted it to end. There are those special moments in your life, when you just feel it’s happening, and this day was truly ours.

Studio tour: Emily Thompson Flowers

Name: Emily Thompson
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Company: Emily Thompson Flowers
What do you do? Floral and event design.
What is your aesthetic? Wild, extravagant.
How does your studio style convey your professional aesthetic? It displays my sculptural work as well as all kinds of flowers and plants. It is chock full of my grandmother’s peculiar collections as well as my own. It was originally a raw, industrial space, but now reflects all my conflicting yet harmonious interests.
Favorite part of your studio? The work tables, usually a big mess.
Where do you go for inspiration? My library, which includes a huge image file that I hauled to the studio by the armload, when the Brooklyn Library gave theirs away. They wouldn’t let any one person take more than she could carry, so I nearly collapsed getting down those steps with a stack taller than me .
What tool do you use in your business that you can’t live without? I have a new flower-clipper holster that I love.
Is there anything you’d upgrade to? I’d love a real glass storefront, or at least a glass door. We have a big red metal door that we keep open until we start to freeze or swelter, depending on the season.

Real wedding: Jenn + Chris

I love brides that take a chance on their wedding dress…especially when its a gorgeous Carmen Marc Valvo number!

Chris and I had our wedding in my parent’s beautiful tree lined back yard in Fairport, NY in June 26th. There was some rain but it was a perfect spot for an outdoor wedding. We had a big tent with a small dance floor. We wanted the wedding to have a handmade kind of feel, and used paper lanterns, handmade origami objects we made ourselves, tea lights in pretty cupcake cups and wild flowers in vintage blue Ball jars to decorate. The flowers came from generous local friends who arrived with buckets of local wild flowers before the wedding. My sister Amy arranged the flowers and created bouquets with wild sweet pea flowers. My dress was a miracle, it was a gown by Carmen Marc Valvo found on sale (75% off!) at Bergdorf Goodman‘s in NYC. The color was perfect for me, I didn’t want a white dress and I loved the cut and tiered layers. Chris’s clothing and shoes were from Barney’s in Boston, his suit was by Jill Sander.

We really wanted live music for our wedding and found a fantastic band from Boston willing to travel out to Fairport. They played bluegrass and covered a few songs we requested, including a song during the wedding ceremony.

Our phenomenal photographer Levi Stolove did an amazing job capturing our wedding, his energy and eye for detail come through in his pictures.

It was a great day, we were really pleased with everything!
