Real wedding: Kait + Robin

budget=$10,000 spent=$13,000
10.25.2008
ceremony: robin & I knew we wanted to get married in a natural space with an industrial edge & some solid history. it immediately occured to us that the east river state park, a preserved 19th century shipping dock just blocks from our apartment, would work perfectly. the cobblestone & station building were just so picturesque, not to mention the view of the manhattan skyline!

our officiant, interfaith reverend jesse hendrich (jessehendrich.com) was so great. robin & I are really quite laid back & I felt like he was really able to tailor our ceremony to our particular taste & temperament. it was just lovely!
reception: the greenpoint coffee house is such a charming little spot. their vintage aesthetic was exactly what we were after. initially they told us that they didn’t generally do things like this, but I can’t express how thankful I am that they decided to make an exception. they did such a great job!
invitations: linea carta (linea-carta.com) screen printed our custom design with a hint of whimsy & tied them all up perfectly in a bit of bird’s nest twine. she also hand calligraphied our place cards & guest poster. loved, LOVED these. they turned out absolutely perfect!
dress & suit: I found my dream dress at the bridal garden (bridalgarden.org). I walked in, spotted it immediately, tried it on & bought it right then & there. it was just so stunning & by my favorite designer to boot! reem acra in champagne silk with antique lace overlay & intricate emboidery.
robin’s suit & skinny black tie was a punky little number by theory.
accessories: kept it simple but different with the most perfect pair of pussy willow earrings crafted by stephanie simek (stephaniesimek.com).
hair & makeup: karla over at the downtown bumble & bumble salon did an amazing job on my hair (for not a ton of $). she does mostly runway so if you’re looking for something a little less traditional, she’s you’re gal.
joy fennell (joyfennell.com) was knowledgeable, professional, & altogether really sweet. she knew exactly what look was required got straight to work. she even gave me a stick of lipcolor for touching up throughout the evening!
flowers: I knew when I found sarah at saipua that we were in good hands. she really helped pull the whole thing together & I can’t thank her enough. I specified originally that I was a fan of more wild looking arrangements, which she was thrilled to hear. a refreshing take on the same old; her flowers are so lovely & the arrangements were picture perfect.
cake: sweet & salty w/ beading at the base. simple, but so good! from baked (red hook, bklyn).
favors: coffee mint soaps from saipua.
photography: the lovely kella macphee! she did such a great job with the aesthetic, not to mention the conditions she braved in order to photograph us. we were hoping to find someone who could capture both the atmosphere we’d worked so hard to create & of course the love we share & we did! she was such a sweet & talented person to work with & the pictures came out so great… I really can’t say enough about them, luckily they speak for themselves!
