Real wedding: Brin + Nathan

This wedding had me the minute I saw the cake!  This Hella Jongerius fabric is one of my absolute favs, and I was so excited to see it translated into a cake!  For it to be the inspiration for a whole wedding is the perfect melding of my 2 loves….interior design and weddings!

Nathan and I both work in the design/furniture industry, and wanted a simple, modern, design-focused Brooklyn wedding. We wanted our day to be a celebration filled with some of our favorite local neighborhood places and things, and to be very intimate and budget friendly. We chose to emphasize graphic simplicity (as seen in our choice of flowers, invites, favors, wedding cake, etc.).

We had a pre-ceremony photo shoot at the Noguchi Museum (we both find to be one of the most inspirational spaces in NY, hands down, and Noguchi is one of our favorite designers), followed by an intimate ceremony and reception with 40 of our closest family and friends at Frankie’s Spuntino, where we are regulars (and I do mean regulars). We chose all Brooklyn vendors who understood our vision for simplicity and elegance. Our wedding cake was inspired by a Hella Jongerius textile by Maharam, where I used to work (the fabric draped underneath the cake, and the pattern continued up the cake’s tiers). Our favors were Mast Brothers chocolate bars…we had custom wrappers designed for them, which repeated the graphics from our wedding invites. They went in the blink of an eye! Our concept for flowers was to actually not have flowers at all, but rather to use unusual foliage with interesting textures in mostly greens (with the exception of some gorgeous red eucalyptus). Our table settings were sprinkled with miniature ceramic hands (glove molds) which held everyone’s place cards, repeated in larger colorful vintage hand molds that supported our dinner and cake menus. A night cap was enjoyed by all at the Brooklyn Social nearby. The overall feel of the day was quirky and elegant at the same time, and was completely us!
