When a cute elopement starts at City Hall and ends with a good cup of coffee, you know it was a good day!

From Hinda:

Having been engaged for 3 years and having no idea nor desire to organize a wedding from over in the UK we really weren’t sure if or when it was going to happen. After deciding to move back to Australia we packed our bags for one last hurrah- 6 months with nothing but us, our backpacks and an LP for Africa and South America. Towards the end of this trip, while on a bus in Colombia (one of many tediously long uncomfortable bus rides) we got chatting about the whole wedding thing and Matt suggested NYC- a place we’d visited a couple of times and absolutely loved. So there it was… a text to Matt’s sister to meet us and bring my rings, no one else was to know. Our motto was ‘Keep it Simple’.

We arrived in freezing NY after spending our days surfing in Panama it was a bit of a shock- the big city and 3 days to get a marriage license, book a restaurant and find outfits- the dirty warn out back packing clothes weren’t going to suffice. We awoke on Monday 25th March to snow fall and a miserable grey day….but it didn’t matter; we had a ball. With ticket C714 in hand we tied the knot at City Hall! Followed by a really fun photo session with Dustin and the incredible tasting menu at The Modern, MoMA.

Our parents were slightly shocked to get our email whilst at work saying surprise we got married!! All’s forgiven now :)

Real elopement: Danielle + Gregor

When this adorable elopement landed in my inbox from Trent Baily, I just let out a big sigh…everything was just sheer perfection…her Zoey Deschanel bangs & kicky dress, to their wedding bands made out of NY quarters!  And of course, capturing their updated Facebook statuses….genius!

Eloping to New York filled us with excitement of the old school charm of the recently renovated court house, the private wedding chamber and the escapism that follows but there was also a bit of anxiety…we would be alone, no family mostly reliant on new connections to help make our day spectacular.   Those new connections were a gift.
We met Trent the day before our wedding to stroll through the city and guide us with a friendly smile and encouragement through the first heat wave.  We strolled through the streets and stopped in quaint spots, smiling and laughing with Trent as he snapped pictures, hailed cabs and cajoled us to press forward even as the temperature increased.
That evening, Greg and I had dinner with his good friend, Alyson.  It was the first time I met her and we gleefully confessed our plan to elope the next day.  Alyson called her boss on the spot, took the day off and met us in our hotel room before the ceremony with her mother’s pearls in hand (something old and borrowed), a wonderful wedding gift and a superman-attitude that more than filled the shoes of best man, bridesmaid, and general all-time cheering section.
Trent met the three of us at the court house and our dream became reality.  The court house was filled with joyful couples dressed in casual shorts and elegant dresses and even the occasional tux and frilly white dress.  A buzz of happiness filled the room as Greg and I and Alyson and Trent chatted and walked through the most important day of our lives with the camera lens quietly clicking in the  background.  Congratulations from strangers followed us onto the streets from the courthouse to the Brooklyn Bridge all the way to the champagne toast that followed.

I cannot not imagine those moments without remembering the kindness of the strangers that made our day.  It spoke to how important connections in life really are…the photographer I found on the internet, an old friend of Greg’s I just met, the florist who created the perfect bouquet, the genuine joy and warm of a NYC court house wedding.

Real elopement: Vanessa + Atiq

So here’s a new one for you…Vanessa & Atiq married themselves.  Thats right…you heard correctly.  Apparently in Colorado you can do that, and I’m loving it!  Who’s needs an officiant to tell you how much you love each other when you can just do it yourselves in a beyond personal ceremony for 2?

‘Atiq and I wanted everything to be simple and cozy. We wanted to enjoy our wedding day and not plan a day for other people.  I picked Cheeseman Park for its beautiful columns and picturesque settings. I wanted the balloons for a bouquet because ever since I was a kid I wanted to be carried away into the sky with balloons. I felt it would be a charming scene to be in a white dress stepping out of a yellow city taxicab with a bunch of balloons in tow. From the moment I stepped out of the taxi it was going to be about us sharing our love and exchanging our vows. Melissa’s pictures showed it all. I was so happy that this moment was here and I was able to enjoy all of it with my husband. All the details came from our hearts we wrote our vows, I made our cake, and even sculpted the wedding cake topper. We topped it off with the most romantic and unforgettable carriage ride to our favorite restaurant, Luca D’italia, where we had our wedding dinner. We planned it to be our romance day, and it was. ’
