Tablescape challenge: Kelly Wearstler inspired

INSPIRATION: Upscale picnic, Kelly Wearstler and Springtime!   For this challenge my aim was to create a clean and approachable design while still incorporating romantic blousy flowers.   This modern table design started with your standard caterer provided crisp white linens and folding chairs. By adding pattern and texture, highlighting a single flower type as well as including special paper details – you have a high impact and fun design.   Modern is all about keeping it fresh and natural, being fashion forward, highlighting lovely details as well as incorporating pattern and graphics. Modern makes a bold statement while putting a big smile on your face.

Tablescape challenge: Modern African

This table setting, styled by Jessica of Être Events and photographed by Lauren Gabrielle, features an eclectic tapestry
of textures and African accents.  Inspired by the Fort Greene, Brooklyn venue, Ici Restaurant which boasts a local and organic
ethos, all of the decor featured in the shoot were found locally in Ft Greene. Sustainability and repurposing items, such as the old 78 records as place settings on the table, supporting local businesses and featuring succulents were intentionally used throughout the theme. Old wine corks were used as to replace rocks or open air gravel the succulents inside the calabash gourds. The batik table cloths, calabash planters with succulents, hydrangea arrangements and candles were all found locally in the neighborhood of Fort Greene/Clinton Hill.

Tablescape challenge: Black & white with drops of green

Black and White with drops of Green

A very quick and simple DIY tablescape that anybody can reproduce at home or for events. All triangle decor made of card stock: hand cut each shape x 2 and attach it to cocktail sticks for the table decor and nylon strings for the hanging decor pieces.

Sources: the centerpiece vessel is from Ikea, the black and white serving dishes are by Marimekko. Photography, menu designs, complete table design and styling by me.

Tablescape challenge: Modern black and white

I’m so excited to get this series started!  We got some great submissions over the last few weeks and this week we’re going to show our favorites!  Next week we’ll announce the winner of the $500 prize thanks to Newlywish!

Our design inspiration is actually one that I have been considering using at my own wedding next Spring.  We love how the paper planes incorporate a strong geometrical accent and also serve as a whimsical throwback.  The baby’s breath softens the look and our florist, Birch Blooms, intended to make them reminiscent of fluffy clouds.  The menus are featured on clear transparencies with white or black ink, the white menus having been designed with original calligraphy by Little Byrd Lettering.  We wanted to achieve a practical table so that guests views wouldn’t be obstructed and used translucent black vases for the tall bouquets, and stout vases holding just a touch of baby’s breath running the length of the table.

We think this is a clear example of why black and white weddings are so classic, and just adore how the crisp white plays against the moody black in a way that’s both elegant and edgy.

[White +] Hot Pink

Having the opportunity to pick up peonies at the farmers’ market is one of my favorite things about this time of year. I especially can’t get enough of the super vibrant, hot pink variety which, as you can see, fully inspired this week’s board. – Courtney
