Cake topper
After slaving away for nights, the cake topper is finally complete. You’ll notice Kiki, my maid of honor, putting it all together, being a good friend and all. There are vintage flowers from Tinsel Trading, the fabric for my dress is ACTUAL fabric from my dress, Chad’s tux is velvet ribbon, and the green fabric is leftover from my vase cozies. You’ll maybe notice the dove on Chad’s shoulder and the rat peeking out from under my dress….its an inside joke that dates back to the day we got engaged…maybe one day I’ll tell it to you.
This site helped a lot with the construction, so check it out if you feel like making your own.

What a fun detail – all the more fun that you made it yourself! I can’t tell you how excited I am to see your whole wedding pulled together!

Oh I love that you did this yourself! I’ve seen them sold on etsy and in other stores for a lot of money and yours turned out so well.
I don’t know if you happend to catch the discussion on wedding bee about one of the bees receiving hate mail after her friend made her a cake topper resembling a well known design.http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/04/17/inspired-or-a-ripoff/
It was interesting to see the different view points on artistic interpretation. I’m fully on the side of brides doing things themselves after they’ve been inspired by something else

Very CUTE! The wedding I shot this weekend had a very similar style cake topper. I think someone made it for them. They are so cute! I couldn’t stop taking photos of it.

I love that your topper has some inside jokes between the two of you. Your guests will get such a kick out of it! And such a nice touch, using your real dress material for the toppers dress!

Ok girlie….get ready for all the requests for special orders to start pouring in. Clear the phone lines and prepare for Martha to start calling. This is what happens when you start showing off your creative genius. That, and the rest of us just get over-the-top inspired and proud that we “know” you!
Really, really stinkin’ cute! LOVE IT!

this is the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen! And so special that you created it yourself- I love that you used the actual fabric from your dress… how personal!

I was wondering how you got the extra fabric for the bride in the cake topper. Did you ask the Junko Yoshioka boutique in Soho for scraps? I also have a Junko Yoshioka wedding dress and want to create a similar topper.

yup, i just called them up and asked them for a piece of the fabric.

That is so cool to see brides using there own resources to make one of a kind decorations..esp. for the fraction of the price. I was wondering how did you do the brides hair?
