[ONE] year + {ONE} contest

Could it be true? Have I actually stuck with something for an entire year?

My first blog sort of fizzled out, but I’m happy to say that Brooklyn Bride has made it to her 1st birthday! I think the question I get most from people is whether or not I’ll continue the blog after I’m married…my response is always if there is cool stuff to post, I’ll be here posting it! I’ve been obsessed with weddings since I can remember, so I see no point in stopping now. Anyway, I’m having far too much fun meeting people and finding the best there is out there for modern weddings.

Thanks so much for sticking with me this past year…couldn’t have done it without you! As a fun thank you, I’m holding a little contest…leave a comment below with what you like about Brooklyn Bride, what you would change, what you would add or like to see more of, whatever you want! Next Wednesday, I’ll pick a winner to receive a specially designed hairpiece by Myra Kim of Twigs and Honey*! She’s so wonderful and has designed this amazing hairband just for Brooklyn Bride’s birthday! Thanks Myra!

  1. Ada Says:

Happy Birthday! I love your blog and read it religiously. I love that you pull inspiration for styling and decor from places OTHER than wedding magazines/ wedding-related companies. I love that you think outside the “wedding box. I also love how visually stunning your blog is. I would absolutely love to see more Real Weddings, and more DIY suggestions from those Real Weddings with instructions, and feedback from those brides about how their projects worked out.

  2. Phoebems Says:

Congrats on a full year! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog. It’s my favorite daily read – You always find such fantastic new vendors, gorgeous photos, and at a variety of price points!

Not much I would change (love the new links to other wedding blog posts), but I would love to see more details on honeymoon ideas. And perhaps some posts on music vendors (I know that’s tough to display.)!

Kudos on a blog well done!

  3. Rebecca Says:

Congrats!! I drop by every day (sometimes twice!) to read. It has been a pleasure to follow your steps towards the wedding alongside my own. I really appreciate how you speak to style, design, fashion *and* going through the work & choices of creating the event. I haven’t found your modern sensibility anywhere else. There’s not much I would change–I would just suggest more of your inspired posts! Thanks for everything!

  4. Julie Says:

Congratulations on a year! Ever since I found your blog it has been a daily read. Your fantastic design aesthetic has led me to find more of my own wedding ideas than any other wedding blog out there. I owe you a finder’s fee or something!

I love when you feature Real Weddings with all the details – more of those would be great, and I would love more simple, elegant DIY projects. Keep up the good work!

  5. A Windy City Wedding Says:

Happy Happy Birthday! I love Brooklyn Bride, you post the best links and contacts for ideas, vendors, products. Brooklyn Bride is not like other wedding blogs and caters to the modern and design minded bride. I would like to see more Real Weddings or interviews with real brides on projects, planning, tips, etc. Keep it up, please let BB have a 2nd birthday and 3rd and 4th…

  6. Ettiene Says:

Happy Birhtday. I love your blog and read it religiously. I would love to see more local venue ideas that are a little offbeat maybe. I also would love for you to continue after your married because you have such great ideas and since i am not married yet i need them to keep coming.

  7. longvowels Says:

Happy Birthday! I’m happy you stuck with your blog. You saved me from a world of of frills and lace!

I wish I found you sooner, I might have considered getting married in my hometown, Brooklyn!
    You rock!

  8. yvonne Says:

Thank you for the year of great posts. Your ideas are always fresh and not seen everywhere else. I live on the west coast now but was a brooklyn resident for 12 years and will be getting married there in Sept.08. Your blog has been a great source of inspiration and information. Would love to see even more real weddings on the budget friendly side. Thanks for all the great eye candy!

  9. Kathryn Says:

Congratulations Brooklyn Bride! I hope you do continue to blog after the wedding – you find the coolest, most unique ideas out there and share them with us! I would say that I love your blog as-is, but then you go and add some cool new feature (like the blog updates!) and make it even better!

  10. amandabear Says:

congrats, love your blog! also love myra’s work – so cute and classy!

  11. Allison Says:

    Yay for a year! Congrats!

As far as the blog goes… I find it distracting when I click on a link, that it takes me away from your blog. I would like to see the links pop up in another tab, or a pop up window. Plus you want to keep the readers on your page anyways. :)

    Best Wishes,

  12. atout Says:

i just recently found your blog and have scoured your archives finding so many amazing ideas for my future wedding. plus, the fact that you posted a myra kim peace, whom i’ve been lusting over, totally solidifies my love!

    keep up the great work!

  13. Beth Howard Says:

    Happy B-day!
I use your blog as a portal to all my favorite wedding sites!

I’d love if you could do some personal interviews with brides before wedding and after. I love the “real weddings” posts!

  14. Wendy Says:

I love your blog! I am in awe of your creativity and knowledge- not to mention your following ( listed in everyone’s blogroll, including mine)! I would miss you too much if you went away after your wedding. I look to you for inspiration for my clients!! Please stay around after your big day- you have SO much talent!!

  15. LeAnn Says:

Best wishes from me as well. I am so glad to hear that you will continue to blog after your wedding. I love the real -real- ideas that you bring forward-they are not copied from other web sites and repackaged. Items like the flea market trip remind me that I should not overlook my own backyard for vendors and resources as I plan my wedding. Genuine originality is hard to find in this industry.

  16. Big Shot Says:

Happy Birthday! Can’t think of anything I would change – love you blog, and love the content. I guess overall (in all the wedding blogs) I’d like to seem more online boutique spotlights. I’m always looking for those.

  17. Uptown Girl Says:

Love the eye candy! Would love to see even more real weddings on a real budget. :)

  18. phyl Says:

    happy birthday brooklyn bride!

your blog is truly the creme de la creme of the most stylish and inspiring ideas and vendors for brides to be, brides that have been, and people who just love weddings =). what makes your blog so particularly great is that i can really get that feeling of personality and style that is really accessible to anyone! i especially appreciate that you’re able to provide such a wide range of content for those of us who may not be native new yorkers =). i’d really love to see you highlight some more great vendors and ideas for those of us who are not of the brooklyn way (some regionally themed posts in the manner that you do posts on brooklyn related items would be really fantastic!!). and there really isn’t too much i’d ask you to change. you’ve been a great resource and we can only hope you stick around for many more birthdays to come!!

  19. zsldy Says:

Happy birthday, BB! And THANK YOU for presenting such well-edited choices for the modern bride-to-be. We busy ladies don’t have time to sift through scads of froufrou junk to get to the good stuff!

I think the amount and type of content you have is terrific, but I’d love it if certain days were themed so we’d know what to expect: like, make Mondays “Real Wedding day” or devote Wednesdays to florists and stationers. Might make it easier for you to plan the content and add extras such as DIY tips from Real Weddings that others are asking for.

Selfishly, I’m glad to hear you’ll keep posting after you get hitched…my wedding’s in DUMBO in August and I need all the help I can get!

    Three cheers for Vane!

  20. Abbie Says:

Congrats! I love all of the pictures you post. They are such eye candy and give me great ideas–even when they’re not necessarily wedding-related. Also, I’ve found quite a few other great blogs/sites from your blogroll and items you’ve listed in your posts– so keep that up!

    *LOVE* that headpiece! It rocks.

  21. Jenna Says:

A 1 year anniversary is so impressive! Your blog is so great, chock full of so much inspiration between the posts and the links, I know it must be a lot of hard work to keep it up. I hope you do keep writing after you get married.

  22. Chitown Bride Says:

I can’t believe it has been a year! Happy Birthday BB. You were the first wedding blog that actually spoke to me and I immediately fell in love. Thank you for all your great finds. Keep up the wonderful blogging!!

  23. Rebekah Says:

Every afternoon I pop on here to see your latest post and I LOVE it. My favorite feature is Real Weddings because it’s nice to see what real brides do rather than just the model brides in magazines. You always have great DIY and fab little details that make the wedding extraordinary. I especially like that you show us ideas from home decor, flowers, etc. that aren’t exactly wedding-related but can inspire unusual ideas. Even when the things you feature aren’t my colors or my style, they make me think of different fun things for my own wedding. And the best part is, you never talk about “our special days”. I really appreciate the direct way you write. In short, love it!

  24. Myra - twigs & honey Says:

    Hey Vane!

Happy B-day Brooklyn Bride blog! I love reading your blog. Thank you for your continue support! You’re so wonderful. And by they way… no need to include this in the contest submissions. hahaha… *wink*

  25. Meg Says:

Yay you! I love all your blog lists and resources, it’s how I’ve found so many wedding blogs.

Thanks for being another non froofy voice in the wedding world. More DIY and buget tips, maybe?

  26. carrie Says:

happy b-day! i love that you have lots of local vendors and handmade items that add so much personality to a wedding. i love that i can depend on you to find everything stylish and modern in weddings.

    changes? um, post more often?

  27. Reila Says:

I love this blog. I found your blog early on when I first got engaged over 2 years ago. I love all inspiration you give which I could use for my own wedding, as well as showcasing new/up and coming artists. Congrats on one year!

  28. catieb Says:

Congrats! I also love the real wedding feature… I love that even though you are a brooklyn bride, you are so relevant to us elsewhere-brides :)

  29. marisa Says:

Happy 1 year, Vane!! How exciting that Brooklyn Bride is one year old! I have been enjoying your blog for the last couple of months now, and I find it to be very refreshing and inspiring! I recently got engaged in January, and it has been so helpful to read about beautiful & helpful ideas, not to mention I enjoy seeing how your wedding planning is going! I love how you feature DIY projects and ideas for weddings, so keep that going! It’s a wonderful blog and I wish you all the best with your wedding & a new, exciting year! Oh and I, too and coming up on a year with my blog, so I wholeheartedly share your joy!! All the best, Marisa

  31. Beri Says:

Hello! I love reading through this blog and finding the unusual- the unique and creative ideas that people have come up with to make their weddings beautiful and one-of-a-kind! How exciting to reach the one year mark! I enjoy seeing the information you have, even though most of it is in NY, there are ideas and resources that we can all use (even us ATL people!)

best wishes and hope this expands all over the US! :)

  32. m+b Says:

From one Brooklyn bride to another… HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Your blog has been a constant source of ideas, inspiration, entertainment and eye candy. It’s the very first blog on my wedding blog dailies!

  33. Shannon Says:

Brooklyn Bride was the first wedding blog I found (actually, the first blog on any topic I found interesting enough to read everyday!) and I’ve checked back every day since for inspiration. I love that I can find vendors on our site that aren’t specifically targeted towards the wedding world, which makes the offerings unique.
The only thing I might add to your site would be a directory of supply places, ie stores other than Michael’s where the DIY bride could buy unique paper products, crafty things, fabrics etc.

  34. onesmallstar Says:

    happy happy birthday!!! yay!
    etsywedding *hearts* brooklynbride –
blog crush! like you *just* as you are.

  37. Lindsay K Says:

Happy Birthday to one of my favorite blogs!! I am a new blogger and am obsessed with keeping up with all of your wedding scoops… thanks!

I love the headpiece. It is so untraditional, which is what I am slightly pushing for.

I would love to also see more DIY…i am such an OCD bride, I want my hand to dabble in everything. Keep up with the good work :)

    Lindsay K.

  38. Myree Says:

Congratulations! Brooklyn Bride is my favorite blog because of how thoughtfully you choose each post for us–each is unique and provides us brides with an attainable way of injecting some sophistication into our weddings. I would love to see more real weddings, and perhaps some more details from your own wedding plans.

  39. Marissa Says:

Congratulations! Your blog is great because you post original content. Too many blogs post info that has made it around the blogoshpere a few times and back. I would love to see more info about you and your wedding and which design details you are using in your own wedding.

  40. Lisanne Says:

Happy 1 Year! Yeah! I love Brooklyn Bride! So much inspiration and so many ideas!

  41. maya Kvetny Says:

    Dear Brooklyn,
As an American in exile (just kidding), well, I live abroad, in Prague, for the last 14 years, and your blog has made my life, and especially my upcoming bi-cultural marriage in Malibu, California, possible. You are my cultural link to current wedding trends, as well as glorious tidbits that enhance my Czech life.As I prepare each step of my wedding in L.A. from Prague, I cannot imagine how I could have done it without your blog. A constant stream of inspiration. The only thing I would add to your blog, would be an extra weekly post about inspiration from abroad. There are some interesting twists on weddings happening in Europe these days…You could focus on a different country every week in a post, and do an Italian favor post, or French wedding cake post….?

  42. Polka Dot Bride Says:

I’m so happy to have ‘met’ you in this blogosphere and can’t wait for many more (there better be!) years of posts!

As for what i love- the vibe! it’s all about the vibe :)

  43. jenny Says:

Congratulations! And Thank you for being a big inspiration for me planning my own Brooklyn wedding!

    And that headband is gorgeous!

  44. Hilary Says:

Congrats! Love the blog! I just wish we had the same resources here in Ohio as you do in Brooklyn! GL with your wedding.

  45. amber b Says:

  48. Anonymous Says:

  49. rachel Says:

Happy Birthday Brooklyn Bride! Thank you for teaching me the difference between “blusher” and “birdcage,” French versus Russian netting. I can now say that I know what a milliner does and what a fascinator is (insert plug for twigs & honey’s beautiful creations). I respect the difference between using edwardian and garamond fonts for “Save The Dates” (aka STD, in “bridespeak”). Because of you, I spent endless hours making a wedding inspiration board. I have been exposed to the gorgeousness of paper parasols and DIY centerpieces. Thanks for many hours and amusement and inspiration. Just keep doing what you do!

  50. thepissedoffbride.blogspot.com Says:

I love your site so much that I started blogging. I give you a lot of credit for finding so much stuff. Awesome job.

  51. obbosí Says:

  52. Carli Says:

    Happy Birthday!!

I am a wedding photographer, always searching for the latest and hottest in wedding trends and you are tabbed on my favorites for a minimum of bi-weekly viewing. :) I don’t know that I would change anything on your blog as you are consistently posting on a variety of topics. AND I’ve bookmarked about a quarter of your wedding photographers for inspiration. They are all fantastic! :)

You should totally keep posting long after you are married… you obviously have found a niche for yourself and with so many readers— please! Keep us informed!! :)

  53. BEL Says:

    Happpppy Birthday!
Love reading your blog…always find something fun, unique, and inspiring.

As for improvement i’d suggest incorporating some overall top navigation of categories. (sorry i’m a designer geek who loves organization). Might help readers get to the info they want (in addition to blog scrolling).

LOVE those hairpieces, am hoping for one for my wedding!

  57. Karen Captured Moments Says:

Happy 1st Anniversary! ..truly one of the best blog resources on the net! Not only great info. but your personality and style really come through your writing..every bride should be grateful for this site!

  58. Anonymous Says:

Thank you, Brooklyn Bride! You’ve helped me see that weddings don’t have to be scary affairs that burn your wallet. I check in everyday to see what you have cooking on your blog and I always leave inspired. I was never a girl who dreamed of her wedding day, yet now I am a bride-to-be who thinks she might actually be having a pretty cool event. I know I will continue to come back to your blog for fun ideas even after my big day. My favorite part of your blog are the DIY projects and the real weddings. They are always stunners.
    Thanks for making weddings cool!

psst: love Twigs & Honey! thanks for introducing me to them as well.

  59. nicolesota Says:

Happy blogiversary! I love your approach to weddings: always fresh, modern and from a new, unique angle. Constantly inspiring!

I would just love to see more of everything — especially real weddings and DIY project highlights from brides everywhere. Guest posts, perhaps?

    thanks for everything!

  61. John Says:

Congratulations on your 1-year! That’s amazing! I love all of your pictures and posts. You find the most unique and inspirational things. Thanks for sharing them with all of us this past year!

  62. Liz Says:

Congrats on your one year anniversary! I moved to Brooklyn and then got engaged a week later so finding your blog was just icing on the cake (or in this instance – a cupcake!). I appreciate your links to other blogs with helpful hints and I have spent many countless nights going through all of your recommended vendors. In fact I have booked two of your listings because of your glowing reviews!

I would love to see more DIY projects for save the dates, invites, favors and décor details. These little things add up very quickly so finding a crafty solution is definitely valuable. Interviews with real brides after tackling DIY projects would also be beneficial so I know beforehand what I’m getting myself into! And links to home décor sites, etsy shops and online stores that provide DIY materials would be great as well.

Thanks again for creating Brooklyn Bride – your blog is like my DIY wedding coordinator!
And good luck with your own wedding!

  63. M Says:

Happy Birthday! Love this blog and find it so helpful as I am planning my own wedding. And ooh, I was just going to visit the website for these hairpieces today because I want one! Pretty please pick me!!!

  64. Bella Says:

I am SO happy that I found you! I am getting married in January and just love having inspiration, as we are planning everything on our own. I would love to see some more Real Weddings on budgets…that’s what it’s all about these days right?! Thank you SO much for all your inspiration!!!

  65. Chrissy, EAP Says:

Congratulations on your impeccable success! This blog is one of the most informative I’ve come across, and I wish you continued success!
