Reader questions

I’ve got 2 questions for everybody…but mostly my NY/Brooklyn crowd…
Joanna is looking for a store in the Manhattan or Brooklyn areas that carries off the rack wedding dresses as well as dresses her guests can purchase. All she’s finding so far are department stores, but I know someone will be able to recommend something else.
Alli is looking for great makeup and hair artists in the NY area…and I’d love to add to my beauty list!
Any help is appreciated!

I recently went to my local Bobbi Brown counter. Bobbi has a special bridal kit and bills herself as a bridal make-up expert. The woman that did my make-up said she often does wedding day make-up and will travel to the site, hotel, home, etc. to do it. I would have taken her up on it but my wedding is in Omaha . But I was really happy with my make-up and bought a few items.

This is unrelated, I was wondering what firm (Interior Design) you worked for?

Can someone help me identify the make-up brush shown in this photograph? I have been searching for some of similar design and haven’t been successful in the quest. Thanks!

I just visited Priscilla of Boston yesterday to look at their bridesmaids dresses. Most of their bridesmaid dresses come in white and can be purchased as casual wedding dresses as well. Hmmm. What else? Maybe try Nicole Miller. Her dresses are spectacular and off the rack. BCBG carries some unique dresses that can also be appropriate for a modern wedding and some shorter styles for your guests. I also just dropped by Catherine Malandrino for the first time (located in lower manhattan) and fell in love with every single stich of clothing in their store. A bit more expensive but totally memorable.

Ann Taylor has a celebrations line. They have inexpensive wedding gowns and dresses for the wedding party. Both Madison Avenue and the Fifth Avenue stores carry the line.
Also, on line J Crew has sone nice things this season for both the bride and the wedding party.

morgane le fay has wonderful dresses for guests as well as the bride. they are generally quite expensive but they just had a sale and they greatly reduce their prices. i would assume they still have items left.

I just ordered my dress at Serene Rose in Park Slope (http://www.serenerose.com/). They carry Siri, among other designers, and don’t require appointments.
You probably won’t have any luck buying a wedding dress off the rack there (I happened to be in the market for a tea-length dress and they have to special order dresses in white), but there are lots of regular dresses to choose from.
