What is your aesthetic? Modern classic

How does your studio style convey your professional aesthetic? Our studio is located within our boutique. It is a light filled boutique on the 4th floor of an old brownstone on the Upper East Side. The classic lines and beautiful molding in the building give the boutique great character, and we’ve added black accents to the room that give it a nice modern clean edge which is softened by a great light blue and ivory rug.

Favorite part of your studio? The fact that we have combined our retail space with our work space and that it allows us to have the best of both worlds.

Where do you go for inspiration? Emily and I met while working at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Emily has a fashion history degree and I studied costume design, so we tend to go back to that when we’re looking for inspiration. We’re designing for modern women, so we try not to get too “vintagey”, we like to keep our designs modern with a classic look.

What tool do you use in your business that you can’t live without? My tweezers. They’re invaluable for picking up the tiny Swarovski crystals that are incorporated into our combs and veils.

Is there anything you’d upgrade to? The ground floor. We are on a fourth floor walk-up, there are lots of pretty things to look at on the way up through The Wedding Library, but it can take the wind out of some people, and it can be hard on the mothers and grandmothers.

Anything else we should know? We work closely with our brides to create the perfect look for their wedding day and we specialize in custom designs. All of our designs are made-to-order and depending on the bride and her style, she may want something that is very customized. Emily and I love working with brides to create original designs, and having our studio as part of our boutique makes it much easier.
