Hey Dawn, Call windy Brow Orchards in Newton, NJ. Its huge and beautiful and I have heard they are doing weddings. They have huge Barns and acressss of land. And they have a store and sell baked goods etc with apple picking and hayrides. I want exactly the type of venue you want, and I am sympathizing, I am almost tempted to start calling Orchards in Sussex county to see if they just want to earn some money, Cause alot of them are struggling.

OMG your pictures are GORGEOUS Addie! I actually have Kella Macphee on my list of photogs to check out. I love all the artistic touches at your wedding.
Thanks everyone again for your time and help. We actually saw a winery that we really liked this weekend. It is very simple and rustic looking and I think we might go for it. It’s called laurita winery. Its a bit further than we wanted to travel but it is worth it.

Just got married at Rutgers Gardens in New Brunswick, NJ, but had our reception near by at the Heldrich Hotel. Rutgers Gardens is very rustic, but VERY AFFORDABLE!!! Check out our pics: http://kellamacphee.blogspot.com/2009/08/addie-sean-82209.html

I would have loved to do both ceremony and reception there, but not everyone was on board. They have two different gardens for ceremonies and a pavillion and log cabin for your use when you rent the gardens, and you’re the only event for the day.

Congratulations! My fiance and I just booked our March wedding at Round Hill House in Washingtonville, NY. It’s not too far from the state border, and it’s exactly what we were looking for. It’s an historic house, not the typical “wedding factory” you find in New Jersey. Prices are comparable and the charm of the place is stunning. We also know two people who were married there, so we’ve had lots of recommendations.

Not barn-ish, but different:

-The Mezzanine, Newark
-Loews Jersey movie theater, Jersey City
-Newark Museum

We looked at all these, but wound up in Orange County, NY, at Round Hill, which is a converted old house.

FWIW, It Tulipano, Skylands, The Tides, Mayfair Farms are all typical “Jersey” venues, IMHO…

Just as some additional info – for Skylands Castle, prices are very high per person and you have to pay a $5,000 site fee. The “castle” is in Skylands Manor, which is a public park, so you could easily take pictures there without having your wedding at the “castle” (it is not actually a castle, its the old Stetson summer mansion that was built from parts of the Solomon Brothers’ Fifth Avenue house).

And things w/ the Frungillos are very different than Masters of Reception. The show puts them in a very, very positive light.
Full disclosure – I worked at Skylands “Castle” for six years, so I’m a little biased.

The Newark Museum. This might be more formal than you’re planning, but it’s an interesting option and has a few beautiful options. I would have had my wedding there but decided to stay in NYC.
