Just last night, walking home from my sister’s house, I was thinking to myself: “So far, this has been a winning year!” Obama (whom I voted for) was inaugurated. The Steeler’s (whom I cheered for) had an incredibly exciting victory at the Super Bowl. Clearly, winning a copy of Colin Cowie’s awe-inspiring book, would be the cherry on this Winning Cupcake called 2009.

I am at that point in my wedding planning (wedding date: June) when it’s time to get down to brass tacks. It is all about the details now! Now, while I know what I like when I see it (when it comes to decor, flowers, etc), I am a little challenged in the creativity department. My fiance and I are creative people.
Yet we’re quickly learning that a wedding isn’t only about the 6 hour event. It’s about collaborating with friends and family long before the cake is iced and suit is pressed. It’s about turning tastings into date nights. It’s about introducing her family to his, and swapping famous family drink recipes over email for the ‘Signature Cocktail’. It’s an incredible process, with the actual day being a culmination of weeks and months of new experiences as you also start a new journey, together.
But how might we translate this spirit of making and collaborating into a wedding? Sure, we can design our invitations and menus, but who’s going to remind us that the menu should tuck into a folded napkin? Or that the story behind the ‘Signature Cocktail’ should be explained to guests? Or that you can swap out your white seat cushions with a splash of green to match your succulents in the middle of the table?
So, my fiance, our families, and I would love this book. To help remind us of things we might not have thought of, inspire us with ideas that push our design, and elevate our wedding experience from great to extraordinary.

Recently married, I cannot say that I will use this for my very own wedding BUT…a huge BUT…this book will hopefully be one of the many things (including all the amazing blogs out there) that will give me the inspiration and courage to make the leap into some part of the Wedding Industry and build my budding library of all stuff WEDDINGS. That’s right…I now have the Wedding Industry bug and cannot get it out of my mind. Me winning this book would not just help me develop professionally but hopefully be the start of me helping dozens, no, HUNDREDS of other bride/grooms with some aspect of their wedding. Best of luck to everyone. CHEERS!
