DIY: Table number jar lights
Why not kill two birds with one stone and combine your table numbers with lighting for your special event? With just a little spray paint you can direct your guests to their correct table by following this sweet and simple tutorial.
Materials: spray paint (I used gold), scissors, masking tape, pencil, glass jar, tea lights
Step 1: Pencil in your number on the roll of masking tape. Please note how tall your jar is before you make your number so that it’s not too large. If you’re not comfortable with hand drawing your number, print out a number on a word processor program and cut it out.
Step 2: Cut out the number and apply it to the jar.
Step 3: Set your jar on some paper you don’t mind ruining and spray paint the jar.
Step 4: Let the jar sit for 24 hours and then remove the number very carefully, making sure you don’t chip the paint.
Step 5: Set your tea light in the jar and let it work its magic!

I think if you use an exacto knife to score the paint around the taped number you should have better luck removing it without the paint peeling problem. It always worked for me when peeling up masking tape designs under asphaltum without chipping the resist when etching metal

I love this idea and have been searching everywhere for short plain jars! All of the jars I find have designs on them, which completely takes away the elegance.
Can you please share where you got the jars so that I can do my best to replicate these table numbers for my daughter’s wedding?

I’m wondering if anyone has done this and used it at their wedding. My fiancé and I are trying it with wine bottles and the smell of the paint, while the candle is lit, is very strong. Have any of you had the same result?
