Real wedding: Jen + Dan

I always love seeing weddings of fellow interior designers….you can always see how what they design influences how they go about their wedding!  This low-key affair is brimming with color and the graphic black and white really gives everything a pop!

“Our nontraditional wedding took place in a friend’s backyard with sky high hedges with stung lights and lanterns. I’m an interior designer (and my husband is a drummer) so we wanted something a little bold and edgy. We opted for black and white and natural linen table cloths, hem stitched linen napkins, smoked glass cigar ashtrays, hammered silver bowls to hold bottles of wine, bamboo chairs and high top stools. A trip to the downtown L.A. Flower market filled the silver mint julep cups with peonies, tulips, and some type of small green hydrangea. Not even sure what it was. And white hydrangeas which are a favorite. With the amazing catering and aesthetic help of Lulu Powers, bestselling author of “Lulu Powers food to flowers,” we were able to pull the wedding together in no time. Probably less than four weeks and totally stress free. She was absolutely instrumental in this event and completely understood our vibe from the beginning. All yummy food was passed and hor d’ourve size for easy grabbing but hardy enough to be in place of a seated meal. We stocked our own bar to cut down on costs but splurged on Lulu’s signature arugula mojito. Our invites were sent out via email for the sake of time and the environment. The landscape provided a bright backdrop for the great photography. Diana was a calm and artistic presence throughout the evening. She captured the cool essence of the night without it being contrived or posed. She surprised us with snap shots of special moments and funny expressions and little details we were pleased to discover. In retrospect, having a small wedding with the guest list topping out at 60, it was a perfect choice for us. It provided us the intimate setting we wanted, and outside of our own, there was a lot of love in the air that night.”
