Neon wedding inspiration: Decor
For the table inspiration we did this 2 ways….more of a monochromatic scheme (above), and then punching it up with a little more color (below). This really could be any color, but since fluorescent yellow seems to be in relatively big supply, it was easy to focus on this first. In my mind, I wanted to dip lots of stuff in yellow paint…the vases, the silverware, maybe even the plates! This proved slightly disastrous, and only the forks held the paint sufficiently, but in the end I liked this better….who really wants to dip a full set of silverware for a wedding with 150 guests anyway?
Dipping vs spraypainting: I chose to dip for 2 reasons….#1, I live in an apartment where I couldn’t control where the spray paint would go (believe me, it gets EVERYWHERE), and #2, I prefer the look of dipping. It gives a cleaner edge and you dont have to deal with that pesky taping like you would with spray paint.
Since I couldn’t dip the vases as originally planned, I made yellow wraps for them with ripstop fabric I ordered online, which I also used to sew a table runner. The napkins did get dipped in fluorescent yellow fabric dye (by the way, its the quickest process ever!)
Artist tape played a big roll in jazzing up a normally monochromatic scheme, and creating a fun backdrop for pictures or just to give life to a normally white wall. While there are lots of tapes that come in neon colors, stick with the artists kind because its safer on walls. Never use duct tape!
These invitations were printed by Paper+Cup without the design on it…instead, Minhee made me a stamp with the heart design and I made my own stamp pad (directions here) so I could use the neon paints I had found to get my pop of color in there. I kept it really clean for the invitation but let it get a little messier on the escort cards for some contrast.
Neon can play apart in desserts and flowers too…here Betsy from Nine Cakes replicated the faceted heart motif from the invitations, and Sarah from Blossom & Branch sprayed leaves and eucalyptus pods yellow to intersperse amongst the textural white blooms. Read the directions on the can, sometimes the color comes out better if you’re painting on a white base.
Here’s that artists tape again! I loved the idea of taking traditional molding found in lots of interior architecture and punching it up with tape to outline its shape. It really made an otherwise traditional element into something modern and a great backdrop!
So how about it? Are you daring enough to bring a little neon into your wedding?

[...] Washi tape is very versatile and it can be used for all sorts of events, even a wedding. You add some color to the table and decorations by using neon washi tape. Use for the silverware, the vases and even for the plates. Try not to exaggerate with the colors. It’s best to choose one shade and stick with that. Neon can also add some eye-catching beauty to the flower decorations and invitations.{found on bkly}. [...]

[...] It’s also important to be creative. For example, if you want your wedding plates to stand out, you can use neon tape. For the silverware and vases you can use neon paint and just dip them to give them a nice touch of color. It will take a while but you’ll definitely love the results. You can follow the same theme and use neon for the floral arrangements and even for the wedding cake as well. It’s all about the color but it’s important to remember to use it in moderation.{found on bklynbrideonline}. [...]
