Tablescape challenge: Modern African

This table setting, styled by Jessica of Être Events and photographed by Lauren Gabrielle, features an eclectic tapestry
of textures and African accents.  Inspired by the Fort Greene, Brooklyn venue, Ici Restaurant which boasts a local and organic
ethos, all of the decor featured in the shoot were found locally in Ft Greene. Sustainability and repurposing items, such as the old 78 records as place settings on the table, supporting local businesses and featuring succulents were intentionally used throughout the theme. Old wine corks were used as to replace rocks or open air gravel the succulents inside the calabash gourds. The batik table cloths, calabash planters with succulents, hydrangea arrangements and candles were all found locally in the neighborhood of Fort Greene/Clinton Hill.

Thank you for featuring an African theme. I love it and it’s truly got real African materials & elements. Jessica is amazing. I’ll keep her in mind when my time comes.

I love the fresh ideas that Jessica brings to this arrangement. 78 record chargers – that’s original! The attention to detail(the curl of a dried stem echoing the curl of the tablecloth design), & the interplay of lines, darks and lights, patterns and textures all work together naturally for an original look. She is a talent!
